 Building Materials
« Thread Started on Apr 15, 2008, 11:22am »

I've been working on reading the Old Testament with deeper scripture study skills as of late. So occasionally there will be an alternate translation from the Hebrew words that are mentioned in the footnotes and I compare those in the text. I've gotten to Exodus where they are instructed how to build the tabernacle. "Shittim wood" is a common material they use. The footnote for it is acacia-which I am unfamiliar with what that is as well XD So I go to the Bible Dictionary, neither is listed. Acacia was described as a bush. Later, thinking about it, I wondered if Wikipedia would have an article with pictures about this plant. It did as well as lots of descriptions. I found the section on its symbolism most intriguing. "The Acacia is used as a symbol in Freemasonry, to represent purity and endurance of the soul, and as funerary symbolism signifying resurrection and immortality." I liked pondering on its symbolic nature of the resurrection and immortality being used within the tabernacle of the ancient Israelites.

I had an acacia in my front yard at the house where I lived while in late junior high/early high school. It was highly allergenic.
